Showcasing the endless appeal of a beach romance.
The inspiration for this conceptual session with young models Jay and Arabella came from a French expression, “Vivre d’amour et d’eau fraîche”, which translates literally to “Living on love and water alone”.
I wanted the photos to show two lovers who don’t care for anything but each other. They have each other, and nothing else matters.
The beach seemed like a great setting for this project, so we head down to Petrie Island, in Ottawa’s East end, on a warm July Sunday. I chose to start shooting at golden hour.
The sky was overcast when we arrived, but we started shooting nonetheless. Lucky for me, the clouds parted and a bright, warm orange light shone down on the models. The sunset was glorious.
I couldn’t have asked for a better scene.
When it came time to editing the photos, I decided to go for a vintage, film-like style, with excess warmth, rough grain, and over-satured colours.
All in all, this was a fun session for me. From ideation to planning to purchasing props to working with the models, it was an exciting and rewarding process. It gave me the creative spark I needed to come up with more concepts and plan more sessions.
